Oral Presentation

File format and file naming

Your presentation should be prepared only with PowerPoint files formatted for PC.

Formats NOT allowed: VHS, DVD, slides and overhead projection will not be permitted and equipment for these will not be provided.

If you use a Mac system, you must save all portions of the PowerPoint to PC format so that the onsite PC computers will be able to open your files.

You are responsible for handing your PowerPoint file to the ISFNF organization staff 24 hours before your scheduled presentation. Please bring your file on a storage device (CD or memory stick) and hand it to the symposium secretariat staff responsible for handling the presentations. If you have to have any other file on your storage device, please put the ISFNF file in a separate folder.

Name your file(s) as follows: (1) your family name (2) your topic (3) date of your presentation (4) time of your presentation. Example: Garcia-Broodstock&Larvae-Jun-3-1330.ppt

» Make sure to have a backup file.
» Please meet the session symposium secretariat staff at least 15 min before the onset of your session.
» Make sure your presentation fits within the time frame as extra time will not be allowed.

Poster Presentation

In order to efficiently communicate the results of your research to the viewers, you are kindly requested to devote considerable effort in the design of your poster.

The dimensions of your poster should not exceed 90 cm across x 120 cm in length.

The heading should have letters at least 35 mm high listing the title of the paper. Also, indicate authors, institution and address. The board of your poster will be numbered and viewers will find your poster according to the title of your submitted abstract and number as stated in the final programme.

Divide your poster as follows:

Title: Use the same title that was used for the submitted abstract. The name(s) of the author(s) and their address(es) should be included below the title.
Introduction: The introduction should contain the relevant information in the field that led the author to do the research and a statement that describes the purpose or objective of the research.
Materials and Methods: Describe methodologies and protocols used. If possible, try using figures and/or diagrams.
Results: Proper use of tables and figures can enhance and better explain the results, but note that the message that your poster contains should be clear and understandable without the requirement of oral explanation. Indicate statistical differences if applicable.
Discussion: This section should interpret the results and compare the results from this experiment to those found in similar research.
Conclusion: Use this section to reinforce the take-home message.
Acknowledgments (OPTIONAL): Use this section to thank supporters and financial aid.
References (OPTIONAL): If you decide to use this section, select only the main references to display in your poster. Use a smaller font.

General tips:

» Careful design is needed. The poster is a visual display. Begin by preparing a scale model layout as an outline for the poster. This allows you to determine the number and size of figures, tables, heading, and length of text before making any final products. If elements are crammed too tightly, the poster will appear chaotic and hard to follow.
» Use the space to attract your audience for discussion, not to present complex details of methods and results.
» Keep explanatory text close to the figure it is explaining.
» Results should be self-explanatory and therefore please provide a clear legend including symbols if you use graphs and tables.
» The discussion and conclusions should be succinctly stated on highlighted. Many viewers read this first, hence it should be easy to find and understand.
